When a few students and I were organizing around the ACT-UAW 7902 strike for our part-time faculty and the subsequent occupation of our University Center that ultimately forced the administration to concede, this documentary served as both a source of inspiration and strategy.
Our school is more of a commuter campus (situated on and around 5th Avenue in Manhattan) than your typical centralized university campus, so generating widespread student involvement and a sense of community was much harder. However, we still wanted to generate the sort of student involvement necessary to bring the administration to their knees.
The passion, active participation, and sheer numbers of the Berkeley organizing blew us away and this documentary was something we returned to time and time again to rejuvenate us and get us looking at the future of student organizing at The New School.
