Steve Tiller is a theatre director, writer, producer and teacher.
As director of the Wedding Collective, a theatre group that attempts to engage with burning political and social issues, he was very privileged to bring The Vagina Monologues to the UK and produce it between 1997 and 2001.
In March 2003, four days after the beginning of the invasion of Iraq, his play, Warcrime, opened in the crypt of a Wren church in Holborn, firebombed and gutted during the London Blitz sixty years earlier. An appropriate venue. It was one of only two productions in the UK, that spring and summer reflecting the indignation felt by millions of people in the country.
The production subsequently toured to seven European cities including Paris and Thessalonika, both at the invitation of the European Social Forum..
In 2006, a second play, The Daughter - a reworking of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure into a modern Middle Eastern context - examined power relationships between Israel and Palestine within the framework of sexual politics.
A third and fourth project are currently in the pipeline. One about African identity and the other a ‘Beggars' Opera' production of Gian-Carlo Menotti's Music Drama - The Consul.
Steve has found Z an invaluable resource over the years.
