I was saddened to hear about the passing of Terry Hall just before Christmas. Terry was lead singer of The Specials, a two-tone band from the late 70s and early 80s. Their songs were political, commenting on Thatcher’s Britain and the racial tensions at the time. Two-tone music is a fusion of Jamaican ska, punk and new wave sounds and two-tone bands like The Specials were made up of Black, white and multiracial members.
This staff pick is in memory of Terry and my condolences go out to his family and friends. I hope you enjoy listening to this classic Special’s song, Ghost Town.
