I was channel hopping the other night and came upon a rerun of Top of the Pops from 1986 on BBC4. The first song up was Suspicious Minds by Fine Young Cannibals so I decided to stop and watch.
The FYC version of Suspicious Minds is pretty good but that’s not what I want to point out. Just keep your eyes on the snazzy moves of bassist David Steele and guitarist Andy Cox (both members of the excellent 2-tone band The Beat prior to joining FYC).
I mean, what in the name of all that is good are they doing? They look like they have legs made of rubber while simultaneously being badly in need of the toilet. And they don’t just wobble about for a bit. Oh no, they keep it up right through to the bitter end. Lead singer Roland Gift bravely sings, pretending not to notice. Well done Roland!
Great sounds by the way, FYC!
