Are you already our man?—
Then your crimes cannot be true.
Should you become our man,
No law your crime can prove.
Are you a critical outsider—
Enemy to the nation?
Then know we are the law,
The State and the Constitution.
In any strong democracy,
The ruling party is the State;
But should you be voted to power
We will contest that postulate.
Politics is not the art of the possible
Only as a transient goal;
It teaches us to manouevre
For permanent control.
Democracy is but a path
That leads beyond democracy.
While we climb on a partial vote,
We must usurp totality.
Machiavelli was but a lad
Next to our Chanakya—
Power is not a contingent goal,
But an ultimate panacea—
Such as we must never yield
To an alternate supervision,
However the people and the laws
Think that a healthy notion.
While we are on campaign trail
We must speak in high moral tone,
But once in the seat of power
All systems must be our own.
