The piety of the politic pious
Is cruelty without redress.
No reason is an antidote
To its viciousness.
God is a gambit they deploy
When other sophistries fail
To quell the truth of argument,
When cunning does not avail.
Then hate assumes the energy
Of a marauding righteous boast,
And those that love scrounge for crumbs,
While devil takes the hindmost.
