Why is the Covid doing what it is doing?

What does it stand to gain?

Does it know what it is doing?

Does it have a brain?

How can just a nothing-cell,

A mote invisible, a speck,

Bring to its knees a species

That among the stars does trek?

How can substance so potent be

As it dwindles to a zero?

A sightless atom broken further down

Becomes an incinerating hero.

Then god may be a nothing-thing,

While we worship colossi;

Does Covid carry a message

That our comprehension passes by?
