    Our War Machine is a Toyota

    One year after the inauguration of the "anti-war" candidate in the 2008 election, we can look back on what we got: inspiring rhetoric on the end of nuclear weapons, a Peace Prize speech that went in depth on how war is actually peace, an increased war budget two years running, escalation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, money and special forces pouring into Yemen, and, the latest news, $7 billion for an updated nuclear arsenal.

    It’s like our war machine is a Toyota. We have no brakes and the accelerator is stuck. Now if we can just keep a steady hand on the wheel until we run out of oil in 40-50 years or so…
