A typical neo-liberal budget, that will do little, or nothing for low wage earners and the unemployed. For some unrevealed reason, capitalist governments refuse to redistribute income and insist on cutting taxes that create deficits, which lead to higher interest payments going to the wealthy who hold the debt. Wage freezes, wage cuts, social program cuts, for what, to enrich the wealthy.
A single person earning $40,000 would save $115 in federal income taxes; would $9.57 a month incite this person to spend more to boost the economy, I doubt it. More than half the population live on less than $40,000. and many of them are unemployed or under employed, that is why Canadian children have such a high poverty rate.
Will $9.57 a month aid these people facing lay offs, wage freezes, wage cuts, social program cuts, and the usual increased users fees?
Simply raising personal income tax exemptions would be the most effective way to help everyone; perhaps some of the working poor and their children could rise above the poverty level.
