J. Todd Ring

Philosopher, researcher, writer.

Also, social entrepreneur, interested in cultural transformation and social revolution, and in ethical, sustainable business as a vehicle for raising funds for social and ecological projects, and for helping as many people as possible through these challenging and also exciting times. In truth, dedicated to economic warfare, using the market to redirect the market, using the market to redirect the flow of resources and hence also power, from the hands of the few into the hands of the many, to not only benefit people economically and materially, but even more importantly, to sow hope, inspiration and empowerment. Ghandi broke the back of the world's greatest empire through the power of inspiration, through the power of uniting in solidarity millions of people, through the power of love and of non-violent direct action, and most essentially, through the strategic power of economic warfare. It is a lesson we need to revisit, and to learn.

My background is in philosophy, world religions, political economy and social analysis primarily, with a long-standing interest in political philosophy and social theory in particular.

My heros and inspirations: among many, many people, many of whom are not famous at all, I would say, Henry David Thoreau, Emerson, Blake, Ettienne de la Boittee, the Buddha, Jesus, Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, Emma Goldman, Noam Chomsky, Michael Albert, Naomi Wolf, Murray Bookchin, Rianne Eisler, Joanna Macy, Alan Watts, Joseph Campbell, Aldous Huxley, Geroge Orwell, Erich Fromm, Dr. Seuss, John Ball, St. Francis, Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr.

Amateur chef and lover of good foods - we can't be all serious, all the time!

"If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution."

    - Emma Goldman

(   Wow, I bet nobody every quoted that here before!  ;)   )

"There is more day yet to dawn. The sun is but a morning star."

     - Henry David Thoreau

CRITICAL ACTION

Critical Action is a longtime friend of Z and a music and storytelling project grounded in liberation, solidarity, and resistance to authoritarian power. Through music, narrative, and multimedia, the project engages the same political realities and movement traditions that guide and motivate Z’s work.

If this project resonates with you, you can learn more about it and find ways to support the work using the link below.

Independent media is not disappearing because the ideas are weak.

It is disappearing because platforms reward speed, outrage, and algorithmic visibility over thoughtful analysis.

More than 100,000 people read Z every month, free of paywalls, ads, and billionaire owners. It takes fewer than 1 in 100 of them to fund all of it: 1,000 donors who keep Z independent, for everyone, and build what comes next.
