John Jordan

John Jordan's work merges the imagination of art and the radical engagement of activism. Co-director of social art group Platform (1987-1995) he then went on to work in the direct-action collective "Reclaim the Streets" (1995-2000). In 2003 he co-edited the book "We Are Everywhere: the irresistible rise of global anti-capitalism" (Verso - and translated in 6 languages). Senior lecturer in fine art at Sheffield Hallam University (1994 - 2003), he left academia to work on the film "The Take" with Naomi Klein and set up the rather stupid idea of the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, which now has battalions across the world but from which he has gone Awol. A cofounder of the Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination he is presently co-writing a book and film project about Utopian communities in Europe whilst being part of the organising collectives of the UK Climate Camp.

CRITICAL ACTION

Critical Action is a longtime friend of Z and a music and storytelling project grounded in liberation, solidarity, and resistance to authoritarian power. Through music, narrative, and multimedia, the project engages the same political realities and movement traditions that guide and motivate Z’s work.

If this project resonates with you, you can learn more about it and find ways to support the work using the link below.

Independent media is not disappearing because the ideas are weak.

It is disappearing because platforms reward speed, outrage, and algorithmic visibility over thoughtful analysis.

More than 100,000 people read Z every month, free of paywalls, ads, and billionaire owners. It takes fewer than 1 in 100 of them to fund all of it: 1,000 donors who keep Z independent, for everyone, and build what comes next.
