Andreas Wittel

I am 45 years old. I am German and have been living in the UK for the last ten years. I am a senior lecturer, teaching in media studies and social and cultural theory. At the moment I am working at Nottingham Trent University (UK). Lately my research interest has focused on the political economy of digital 'things'. I come from an autonomist background and have been involved in a number of movements within the German Radical Left. I have never had any affiliations with political parties and don't really believe in party politics. The last decade in my political biography can best be described as growing despair with neo-liberal politics and 'cool Britannia'. I see the Reimagining Society Project as an opportunity to focus my own views about constructing alternatives in a conversation with other participants. I have rather strong hopes that the Project can revitalise a global conversation about a fairer world. Even more so I am very excited about the design of this initiative with its focus on strategies for change. I am hopeful that such an approach can become politically effective.

CRITICAL ACTION

Critical Action is a longtime friend of Z and a music and storytelling project grounded in liberation, solidarity, and resistance to authoritarian power. Through music, narrative, and multimedia, the project engages the same political realities and movement traditions that guide and motivate Z’s work.

If this project resonates with you, you can learn more about it and find ways to support the work using the link below.

Independent media is not disappearing because the ideas are weak.

It is disappearing because platforms reward speed, outrage, and algorithmic visibility over thoughtful analysis.

More than 100,000 people read Z every month, free of paywalls, ads, and billionaire owners. It takes fewer than 1 in 100 of them to fund all of it: 1,000 donors who keep Z independent, for everyone, and build what comes next.
