It was up to us to face the Trumps of the world and their police. And we are doing just that.
George Orwell was born in 1903. In 1922, at the age of 19, he joined the Indian Imperial Police and was sent by the British to Burma (now Myanmar). He writes. āTheoretically – Ā and secretly, of course – I was for the Burmese, and all against their oppressors, the British. As for the job I was doing, I hated it more bitterly than I can perhaps make clear…. all these oppressed me withĀ an intolerable sense of guilt. But I could get nothing into perspective. I was young and ill-educated⦔ [“The CollectedĀ Essays, Journalism, and Letters of George Orwell”, Vol.Ā 1, p. 236].
I think that a minority of the policemen of the world hate their job bitterly and they are oppressed with a sense of guilt.
How about the majority? The answer was given by Rudolf Diels probably the most knowledgeableĀ person in the world on this matter; the creator of Hitler’s Gestapo. Here is his testimony: “The infliction of physical punishment is not everyman’s job.Ā And naturally weĀ [in the Gestapo] were only too gladĀ toĀ recruit men who were prepared to show no squeamishness at this task. Unfortunately, weĀ knew nothing about the Freudian side of the business, and it was after a number of instances of unnecessary flogging and meaningless cruelty thatĀ I tumbled to theĀ fact thatĀ my organization had been attracting all the sadists in Germany and Austria… It had alsoĀ been attracting unconscious sadists, i.e.men that did not themselves that they had sadistic leanings until they took part in the flogging. And finally it had beenĀ actually creatingĀ Ā sadists.ā [Eric Larson, ‘In the Garden of the Beasts’, Random House, 2011, p.370].
A few years ago in Athens,Ā Greece,Ā theĀ women that worked in the cleaning of public buildings were striking demanding their rights. They ended up sitting down at the sidewalk in front ofĀ a government building close to Syntagma Square, a squareĀ known to millions ofĀ American tourists. At some point I went to the sit-down and had a brief conversation with the women. A few days later in the news, especially on television,Ā it was made known that the policemen attacked the women. I noticedĀ that the policemen hadĀ fabricated a new way to inflict pain on the women. They stood in front of themĀ holding their plastic shield raised up to the face of the women and abruptlyĀ under the lower partĀ of the shield they kicked the legs of the women with all their might. Next day I visited the womenĀ on the sidewalk. One of the women was in a wheelchair with her legsĀ in bad shape. It so happened that after a little while the women were approached byĀ Terence Quik (!), a Greek journalist turned to aĀ politician and by then a member of the Greek Parliament. I introduced myself and explained to him the novel way of attacking the women by kicking their legs. It seems that heĀ understood what was going on.Ā After that the kicking stopped.
As aĀ Greek, in his early nineties, at the time,Ā IĀ could surmise theĀ source of the novelĀ and very “effective” way of disabling the dangerousĀ female opponents. The source: a hillbilly asshole whoĀ hadĀ joined the police.
Now observing the scene ofĀ the killing of George and of one more case of aĀ similar way using the knee to asphyxiateĀ a black man, I surmised that thisĀ is a practice taught by the trainers of the AmericanĀ policemen, probably after the advice of a doctor or doctors.
That this could happen in a scientifically advanced country as the United States is not farfetched.Ā Again this part of the doctors is an extreme minority, the overwhelming majority of the doctorsĀ are normal humans. Of course there is an equally advanced country to the United States. The Germans. Take Professor Klaus Schilling of GermanyĀ who hadĀ been givenĀ financial backingĀ by the Rockefeller Foundation.Ā He was executed at the trial of (the)Ā Dachau torturersĀ He was seventy-four year old. [Dachau, The Official History 1933 – 1945, by Paul Berben]
There was also Sigmund Rascher, the medical ‘star’ of Dachau, who was asphyxiating prisoners to their death. A monster. Here is an extremely interesting and rare letter of Nini, Rascher’s beloved wife to Hitler:
Highly esteemed, dear, ReichsfuererĀ [Hitler]
You have given us great pleasure again! So many good things!
The children’s porridge will be enriched now for quite a while.
….. My husbandĀ is very fond of chocolate and took some to
the concentration camp. [of Dachau].
We thought that you would allow yourself a little peace and
quiet after so many strenuous weeks but youĀ had toĀ leave
again today.
………………..
My husband is very pleased at the interest you have shown in
his experiments for which Dr. Romberg would have shown too
much restraint and compassion on his own…….
With most sincere wishes for your wellbeing I remain
Always gratefully yours
Nini Rascher
