There was a flurry of excitement at work this week, after my recently published memoir became available on-line. The full title is The Most Revolutionary Act: Memoir of an American Refugee (see http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TheMostRevolutionaryAct.html)
I have worked at the Child and Adolescent Community Centre for more than five years and have long had a reputation as a “greenie” (New Zealand slang for leftist). People who have never shown much interest in my political views are fascinated to learn that I have been targeted by US intelligence for my activism. Even in the rural provinces, it seems New Zealanders are far better informed about CIA involvement in covert assassinations than their American counterparts. In fact my Kiwi friends are emailing me begging me not to return to the US for my book tour because they worry about my safety.
The Most Revolutionary Act describes how intense government harassment between 1987 and 2002 led a 54-year old psychiatrist, single mother and social activist (me) to close me 25-year Seattle practice to begin a new life in New Zealand. My frightening encounter with U.S. intelligence began quite innocently, as I assisted two former Black Panthers transform an abandoned school into a museum. What started as unrelenting phone harassment and illegal break-ins progressed to six attempts on my life and an affair with an undercover agent who railroaded me into a psychiatric hospital.
Within months after my release from the hospital, a union activist sought my help for similar harassment and intimidation. The harassment ultimately resulted in his murder, which was never investigated or prosecuted, owing to interference by U.S. intelligence. My two-year crusade to identify and expose his killers turned into a crash course in the criminal activities U.S. intelligence is notorious for, including narcotics trafficking, arms dealing, money laundering and covert assassinations of both foreign and domestic leaders and activists.
The conclusion I came to was inescapable – that the U.S. government has been taken over by a psychopathic shadow government that answers neither to our elected officials nor the rule of law. With the deep economic and political turmoil confronting America at present, clearly the time has come to out these shadowy power brokers and hold them accountable.
