I have recently come to learn that British Parliamentarian and international justice advocate George Galloway has been banned entry into Canada pursuant to s.34 of the linked Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

This is an appalling decision and ought to be brought to light for the hypocrisy that it supports. Hamas is the democratically elected authority of the Palestinian people. The most recent elections were monitored by the EU and the Carter Center and were perhaps the most free and fair in the entire Middle East. For Mr. Galloway to be barred entry for supporting a democratically elected government that resists an illegal international occupation is contemptible.

As a member of your constituency, I request that you do all you can to bring light to this situation and to raise it in the House.

34. (1) A permanent resident or a foreign national is inadmissible on security grounds for

(a) engaging in an act of espionage or an act of subversion against a democratic government, institution or process as they are understood in Canada;

(b) engaging in or instigating the subversion by force of any government;

(c) engaging in terrorism;

(d) being a danger to the security of Canada;

(e) engaging in acts of violence that would or might endanger the lives or safety of persons in Canada; or

(f) being a member of an organization that there are reasonable grounds to believe engages, has engaged or will engage in acts referred to in paragraph (a), (b) or (c).
