Yes, this made international headlines.
Reuters headline tells us that “Famous Venezuelan ice-cream store closes over milk shortage”
For a long time I’ve privately, not just publicly, urged corporate journalists in Venezuela to say something about hundreds of Chavista peasants who have been murdered since 2001. The privately made excuses I’ve received for ignoring the killings, which strongly implicate wealthy anti-government landowners, have been lack of time and lack of resources.
Well, apparently they do have the time and resources to write about an ice-cream store closing.
Here is a petition that I ( and several others including Noam Chomsky and John Pilger) sent to the UK Guardian in 2011 about the issue of the murdered peasants. What if hundreds of wealthy landowners had been murdered in crimes that implicate the Venezuelan government? Would they have found the time and resources to write numerous articles about it? I think they know the answer.
