Davis spoke in support of death-row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal, at an event marking Abu-Jamal’s 55th birthday and the release of his new book: ‘Jailhouse Lawyers: Prisoners Defending Prisoners v. The USA’. Davis wrote an introduction for ‘Jailhouse Lawyers’ and she is also the author of ‘Are Prisons Obsolete?’.

A feminist and a Marxist, Davis was a longtime member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and is a founding member of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS). She is the author of more than ten books on class, gender, race, and the US prison system.
