Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party on Saturday, shocking many who had seen the veteran left-winger as an outsider in the leadership contest.

Now that the longtime backbencher is leading the UK’s main opposition party, what is his strategy to deal with the Islamic State? Under what conditions, if ever, would he sanction military action? And will he stop UK arms sales to Saudi Arabia?

MEE caught up with Corbyn prior to his election to ask him his views on the current crises in the Middle East and beyond and whether the British public can be convinced that his perspective is the best one for the UK.
