Have you the tulips seen this Spring?–

They are red beyond compare;

“There was more blood in the earth this year,”

The Foothills women sing.

Have you the tulips seen this year?—

They are out in greater numbers

Than any old crone remembers,

As if to mock the murderous air.

Will the tulips forever last,

Or  will all their blood be drained?–

Fear not, they are in resurrection trained,

Their seed is in eternity cast.
