He that once bore Perseus

Upon his flying back

From the ocean floor to the firmament

Is now a virus in your sack.

 

Once a power-house of good

That scaled the universe,

Greedy men with wicked brains

Now make a smart-phone curse.

 

The declension of our creepy times

Corrupts a flying Samaritan

Into an invisible spyware hack

To render us undone,

 

And hollow out our existence

On to some villain’s plate,

Who may then barter our foibles

Or declare us enemy to the state.

 

How may we live with dignity,

And be free, fearless, whole?

Alas that Pegasus should be the name

Given to a worm that steals our soul.
