In mature democracies

Governments are made

Not by parties or people’s vote,

But by how much who is paid.

The business of democracy

Cannot be left to the voter.

Where Capital reigns, the decision

Must belong to the fattest otter.

That way governance is secured

From the numerous hoi polloi.

Security is an issue that far outstrips

The voter’s day of joy.

If the voters vote in erring ways,

Rocking the leading boat,

The Centre must assume the role

To rearrange the vote.

Which Is why the governors

Take special care

Selflessly to ascertain

That the right man is in the chair.

Thus, well beyond any voter choice

Checks remain in use,

Lest the electorate runs away

With the golden goose.

Operators thus supervene

People’s maverick mind.

Mature democracies among operators

Their secure conclusions find.
