Donations, Print Subscribers, and Sustainers Still Needed

In last month’s issue of Z Magazine, we made an urgent plea for help in raising $50,000 by early November and another $100,000 by early next year. In addition, through ZNet we are hoping to raise our monthly income beyond by dramatically increasing online Z Sustainer donations.

We are pleased to report that, as of this writing in mid-October, we’ve raised more than $37,000 in direct donations and just over $32,000 in increased Sustainer donations. (Click here for more on our online fundraising campaign.) We are especially encouraged by the many supportive statements to "save the print magazine." One donation check noted in the memo line "for enlightenment," which we especially appreciated.

We’d like to thank all those who have donated so far. You are coming through for us as you have done before—some of you have even supported us since our founding in 1988. That said, we still need to:

Not So Outrageous Gift Offer

Each year Z Magazine offers holiday gift subscriptions at "outrageous" discounts. This year, even with donations coming in, we don’t feel we can risk such (money losing) outrageous offers as $9 subscriptions, as we have in the past. But we do feel confident in some "not so outrageous" discounts. Offers such as these don’t generate that much money for us (except when gift givers add donations to the form), but they save the cost of expensive mailings to "potential" subscribers and, best of all, they introduce us to new readers (who perhaps will renew in the future). We’re hoping you will take advantage of this offer and help get the word out about our political and cultural analysis, alternative visions for a just society, activist reports, cartoons, satire, and more. Using this printable form, you can purchase one gift for $23 (a $10 discount), two gifts for $20 each, or three or more gifts for $16 each.

As a final note, for those who would like to make a more regular donation in support of Z Communications and its many projects, signing up as a Z Sustainer provides us much-needed income. This income is what has helped sustain Z through the years when people were switching from print to the web (exclusively) for their information—many of whom are returning to print. As a Z Sustainer, you not only help support us financially, but you join a political community. And, ironically, increasing online Sustainer donations by just $10,000 a month will help "save the print magazine," which more than one donor has said they read cover to cover every month, with one underlining what he refers to as "gold nuggets everywhere in its pages."
