Noam Chomsky (geboren op 7 december 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is een Amerikaanse taalkundige, filosoof, cognitieve wetenschapper, historisch essayist, sociaal criticus en politiek activist. Chomsky, ook wel ‘de vader van de moderne taalkunde’ genoemd, is ook een belangrijke figuur in de analytische filosofie en een van de grondleggers van het vakgebied van de cognitieve wetenschappen. Hij is gelauwerd hoogleraar taalkunde aan de Universiteit van Arizona en emeritus instituutsprofessor aan het Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), en is de auteur van meer dan 150 boeken. Hij heeft veel geschreven en lezingen gegeven over taalkunde, filosofie, intellectuele geschiedenis, hedendaagse kwesties, en in het bijzonder internationale zaken en het buitenlands beleid van de VS. Chomsky schrijft al vanaf het allereerste begin voor Z-projecten en is een onvermoeibaar voorstander van onze activiteiten.
