WINTER SOLDIER – From March 13-16, 2008, Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) will gather in Washington, DC to give first-hand testimony to the brutality, criminality, and stupidity of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. The event also honors the influential Winter Soldier campaign of Vietnam Veterans in 1971.

HAITI – Haiti Action Committee is coordinating a campaign demanding the safe return of Haitian human rights activist Lovinsky Pierre-Antoine. He is a psychologist who works with victims of torture, and a fierce activist who stands with his people in the streets. He was kidnapped on August 12, 2007 after meeting with a U.S. human rights delegation. Education, outreach, demonstrations, fasts, and petitions are being employed.

MEXICO – Servicio Internacional para la Paz continues to expand its monitoring of conflicts in Oaxaca and Guerrero, Mexico. This monitoring helps to call international attention to the similarity between issues in Chiapas and other Mexican states. At the same time it offers support to the human rights defenders experiencing harassments and violations of their human rights.
