P. Sainath is an Indian journalist and an expert on global development issues. He is also the author of Everybody Loves a Good Drought, which won him the 2007 Ramon Magsaysay Award for journalism, literature, and creative communications arts, widely considered to be the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize. On Sept. 18, he gave a talk on global inequality with an emphasis on development economics in India to a crowd at UT-Austin.
To provide context for his introductory remarks, Sainath began by discussing his appearance on the front page of the Sept. 13, 2008 issue of the Mumbai Mirror, featured at left. (Said front-page article can be found here.) He then mocked the federal government’s recent Wall Street bailout.
